When it comes to Image editing or photo enhancement, Adobe Photoshop is usually the primary option to consider. However, the software package itself is a quite hard to learn — and extremely hard to master.

Display beautiful images is a potent element in web and graphic design, where there is less concern for readability and more potential for using images in an artistic manner. Photoshop is useful for both creating and editing images to be used in print or online. Not too easy to use, but full of high-quality features, Photoshop is the best choice for any image manipulation job.

SO MUCH GOOD STUFF SO FAR.

As we approach the halfway point of 2009, we’ve begun seeking out the best and brightest in the ol’ Custom Letters Dept. And we are asking for submissions—if you see something we’ve missed, please send us a link.

Custom Letters is an evolving category that includes calligraphy, sign painting, graffiti, stone carving, digital lettering, hand lettering, paper sculpture, and type design (we’d prefer to feature new/original type over, say, revivals).

Custom, in this instance, means built from scratch; we aren’t looking for customization—a type treatment or 3d treatment—of an existing typeface.

We’ll be adding more pieces as the year progresses, culminating with a Best of 2009 at the end of the year.

Now to the good, the great, and the notable stuff we’ve seen so far in 2009.

Auf den Seiten von Foldfactory gibts jede Menge wissenswertes und interessantes zum Thema Falten. Weiters gibt es ein InDesign Plugin um verschiedene Faltungen durchzuführen und berechnen zu lassen -> FOLDRite

Sehr interessant sind auch die Faltideen. Hier findet man alles von einfach bis (fast) unmöglich!

Sandee Cohen hat zu ihrem gleichnamigen Buch From Design Into Print einen Podcast. Hier erfährt man einiges zum Thema Druck und Druckvorstufe. Für alle die hier etwas mehr Einblick erhalten möchten, kann ich diesen Podcast (audio-only, Entlisch)  nur empfehlen!

Chaos To Order für den Computer: Flow

Geniale Software zum Organisieren seines Workflows am Computer, ohne etwas Zusätzliches machen zu müssen. Flow arbeitet im Hintergrund und zeichnet alle Links/Verknüpfungen einer Datei auf und alles was kopiert, ausgeschnitten und eingefügt wird. Ähnlich der Links-Palette in InDesign, nur sehr sehr viel umfangreicher!

Am besten auf der Homepage von Gridiron die Tutorials anschauen!

Weiters bin ich Trainer für Gridiron und kann über Flow berichten, also: die nächsten Kurse kommen bestimmt. (Sonst einfach hier fragen!)
